the Bible tells us that Jesus came to set the slaves free.  this means that Jesus cares about the people no one else seems to care about.  Jesus comes to take care of the people that other people might hurt for their own gain.

read isaiah 61.1-3 with your parents.

The Spirit of the LORD God has taken control of me!
The LORD has chosen and sent me to tell the oppressed the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, and to announce freedom for prisoners and captives.
This is the year when the LORD God will show kindness to us and punish our enemies.

The LORD has sent me to comfort those who mourn, especially in Jerusalem.
He sent me to give them flowers in place of their sorrow, olive oil in place of tears, and joyous praise in place of broken hearts.
They will be called "Trees of Justice," planted by the LORD to honor his name.

ask them what it means.  tell them how it makes you feel.  what does it say about God?  ask your parents what these verses have to say about Christmas and how we celebrate it.

next, pray together:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for caring about everyone - even people that most of us forget.  Thank you for setting slaves free.  Thank you for setting us free from the wrong things we do.  Please help us, this year, to celebrate your birthday in a way that cares for all the people you love in the world and shows the world that you came to set everyone free!
Amen.

then, color in this color sheet and think about how fun it will be to celebrate that Jesus came so that no one has to be a slave or be hurt by bigger, stronger, more greedy people anymore!
