the origins of
orange christmas...
orange christmas...
this is midtown friends' third annual orange christmas. officially, we are only one year old as a church. but orange christmas was one of the very first things we did together as people seeking to follow Christ in the world.
we are a friends church...or a quaker church. quakers have a rich history of advocating for justice and an end to slavery.
when our pastor, rebecca, first arrived in midtown and began to plant a new community of quaker Christ-followers, God made it clear to her that this community would carry that mantle.
and so, she began to "dream of an orange christmas."
the first year, there were less than 10 of us doing what we could to use less slave-made products to celebrate Jesus' birth.
last year, that number had more than doubled - as had commitment to the vision of a slave free christmas.
this year, we are inviting you to join us. we want this to become "a thing." we want it to be a global movement of getting back to the roots of the holiday and worshipping God with justice rather than excess and ritual!
will you join us? will you join in dreaming of an orange christmas?
